Types Of Ferry Services Offered In The Andaman Islands:

Government Ferry by DSS: – The directorate of shipping services operates the government ferries in the Andaman Islands. They run these ferries in [Port Blair, Havelock Island, Neil Island, Little Andaman, Mayabunder, Rangat, Campbell bay, Strait Island].

The tickets of these government-operated ferries can’t be booked online. They can be booked by the traditional queuing up method [offline] at their counters.

Tourists can contact their local travel agents to book the tickets for government ferries or by the old-traditional method of visiting their counters.

This department operates for the local islanders for their convenience of transportation. The price of the tickets is costly. Due to the only way of transportation as there no road transportation available.

Status Of Government Ferries During Peak Season:[October-January]

#1. For Havelock Island, Port Blair, Neil Island

It is tough to get a ticket from your travel agent for the island in this peak period, as the demands are more than the availability.

#2. For Little Andaman [Hut bay]

The demand for this island isn’t that high as compared to the above locations. You can get a ticket quickly from your travel agent because the ferries are available daily. However, please keep checking the schedules as they can change from time to time.

#3. For Other Islands [Rangat, Campbell, Strait]

Tickets for these can also be booked quickly for these islands. You are advised to check the official website for the status and schedules. The DSS keeps updating and changing the old schedules depending upon the bookings and supply of the ships.

Private Ferry:- As per Sept 2017, two private ferries operate in Andaman, i.e. [Mak Logistics, Green Ocean Seaways]. These private ferries operate in the famous islands that are Havelock and Port Blair. The schedules are released in advance as compared to the government ferries.

You can book these private ferries online, either your travel agent or you can book the tickets with ease. There are not many complex procedures compared to the government ferries. The tickets prices range from ₹1000-₹2000.

Status Of Private Ferries During Peak Season:[October-January]

The total number of available ships is more than two. Still, they only operate in the peak season as the demands are higher in this period, so it could be nearly impossible to get a ticket near the peak period.
